The life lesson taught by a street.

We often come across simple things that teach us grand life lessons. This picture of a street taught me one such life lesson- one that will come a very long way in not just my life, but that of others too.
At first glance, this picture doesn’t convey much to most people. But the man sweeping the street comes out in the morning, every single day, just to clean the street and make sure that his surrounding is clean.
What one must understand from this is that we are all born into this world with a purpose in life. We all have our own duties to perform. Whether it’s small acts of kindness which would make one person happy, or striving towards a community goal that would make many happy, we all serve different purposes in life, and we’re all in our own time-zones. Just because a friend is settled in life with a home and a family doesn’t mean he or she is ahead of you. Just because someone is having a good or bad time at present doesn’t mean his or her life has been or will be the same throughout.

We are all unique, and we need to embrace our uniqueness. I think many people just want to do things that they’re not really meant to do. Things that they aren’t created for. It’s alright if your friends go for a night party. You don’t necessarily have to go for it just because your friends are going for it. They may be the party-type but you may be the workaholic-type. And just because the party-type people say that workaholics suck and are boring doesn’t mean they really do. Your friends may be complete extroverts, and that doesn’t mean that you need to try too hard to socialise with people who are pointlessly gossiping about things. Find your own purpose- the thing that works your mind, and commit yourself to it. That’s when you’ll feel devoid of any void in life. That’s when you’ll feel proud of yourself.
In reference to this picture, the man keeps sweeping the street until he’s satisfied. Until he thinks the street is really clean. He doesn’t bother about the people who are sitting in the tea stall nearby and gossiping about things, he doesn’t bother about those who pass through the street, he minds his own business and makes sure he does what he’s supposed to do. We need to reach that level of self-acceptance and learn to stay focussed on the task in hand. We need to embrace our uniqueness. And when that happens, our life becomes so much more better, and when that happens, the world becomes a better place for us.
